Yard Sale of Thoughts

I am lucky to be able to feature two poems about common weeds that grow here in Virginia. The first is the famed dandelion. My poem “Dent De Lion” was published today on Spillwords. The Chicory of Waiting

Roadside weed,
a blue-eyed maiden
waiting.
Each term
she sprouts on berm
wed to a promise
that he will return 
from sloppy sea.

Oh Chicory! Chicory!
Hopeful every season. 

Before the dew, she
ope's her eyes,
afraid to miss 
one morning's rise.
In fear her love 
may wander by,
gone for awhile, 
but not forgotten.

Oh Chicory! Chicory!
Lonely by end of season.

Last winter,
his imported seed
laid to rest 
in memory's cemetery.
By barren noon,
she stands alone
in borrowed blue,
bitter and depressed.

Oh Chicory! Chicory!
Waiting every season.
