Over the Outer Banks,
a herd of white elephants on parade.

They may be useless,
but trunk to tail, worries evaporate.

No matter the burden or the weight,
footprints for another day.

Don't think about the grand design
or curse being first
or last in line,

think on nothing but the rhythm,
a comfortable pace,
towards the blessings of the blue watering hole
flowing naturally in the summer sky.

White clouds,
chang phueak,
sacred, ornamental, and mistook
bring both prosperity and grace
to all who truly look.

    1. Thank you. I recently learned the story behind the expression white elephant, and then spotted my own herd in the sky yesterday.

    1. Thank you, OP. I don’t see white elephants the same anymore, and I think this poem reflects that shift in life perspective. Cheers!

    1. Thanks so much, John. That jolly herd of white elephants paraded right by me. I was grateful for their shade.
