Before the waves transcend,
they clasp their hands
in partnership,
an ampersand.
The dune will never be their end,
yet they fear where they might land
for an ocean wide they have known,
and finally they must face the strand
with forehead bowed,
abandoning conceit,
in prostration & reverence
they make their solemn request
for longevity.
