Each day the school bells ring
for liberty;
the rim-like swirl,
a sound bowl of
vibrational healing.

Out on the balcony,
a yellow-breasted hummingbird
quivers above a tiny myrtle tree;
it takes a lot of sugar
to keep one heart beating.

With good luck, the bird attends the bloom
as it is opening; seed
awakened by sunlight,
thirsty for water,
looking skyward for
protection,
and the partial-shade
of nearby mothering leaves.

I am left in awe of nature's timing,
life's synchronicity.
What an honor to be a teacher
tending trees without rings.

    1. Yes, they really do. I see them here as I’ve been sick and resting. They like the tree on my balcony.

    1. Thank you, kindly, Nicole. I may have beat the Bangkok cough (Bangcough)finally. It’s a good feeling to just breathe.

    1. Thank you, Bob. I decided to turtle through the election, but I might be ready to test the waters again.

        I’m still mostly in a shell after the elections. It’s good winter is here. A good excuse to turn out the world and instead catch up on lots of reading.

    1. Thank you kindly, Linda. My younger students have so much energy. They remind me of the hummingbirds here, flitting around and drinking it all in.
