Amid puddles of memory,
depth and filth unknown,
there’s one erasable embrace of you,
without ripple,
so simple,
solid,
and pure.

Satiated by baguette limbs,
warm with smell of home,
just one erasable embrace from you,
and I’m family,
so hearty,
full,
the cure.

This poem is written for D’Verse Quadrille (44 line poem) challenge #121, with the prompt: embrace. Find out more about how to participate here.

  1. To have such memories … what a great way to cope with the puddles of life.

    1. I love puddle hoping, and the one from this photo was epic, but also fleeting. Thank you for commenting.

    1. Thank you, kindly. I’ve always been such a free verse girl, but I’m trying to embrace the beautiful of form and pattern in my work.

  4. I love this. Wow! It’s so visceral to me, and I have to say, the first stanza is my favorite. It’s all in the first three lines:

    “Amid puddles of memory,
    depth and filth unknown,
there’s one erasable embrace of you”

It’s such a strong image and verse, it can easily stand alone and say it all. I love how you entwined embrace in this poem; I feel it gives off an unforgettable moment or memory, but then it builds into more memories as one delves in. It’s just so beautiful.

    1. Thank you, Kim, for your kind comment. I thought I could mirror the stanzas a bit to make a puddle reflection of the text. So glad you found it pleasing.

    1. Agreed. It’s been almost two years for us to be with loved ones afar. We are still waiting for familiar embraces.
