I learned many, many songs from my grandparents, but I sing this particular song to my daughter in the evenings now, subbing in her name.
I remember my grandmother playing and singing this song many times. Picking blackberries and working in the garden or on the porch in the evening. I’ll never forget the day she asked me, “Why don’t you pick up that ole’ spare guitar and play along?”
Music brought the joy out in both of us. I miss all my grandparents greatly and my trips to the green, green grass that grew up Forks of Buffalo.
This song is a great reminder of what matters most no matter where I roam.
