High above the stock-still lake,
the full moon rakes, the full moon rakes.

Placed more bets that it can take,
the full moon rakes, the full moon rakes.

Below, lost lovers wade and ache;
the full moon rakes, the full moon rakes.

The stars are dim as dead man’s flakes;
the full moon rakes, the full moon rakes.

Reflection widens pain’s outbreak;
the full moon rakes, the full moon rakes.

Upside down like ducks and drakes,
the full moon rakes, the full moon rakes.

The heart has no hydraulic breaks;
the full moon rakes, the full moon rakes.

Defy the odds, but mind the stakes;
the full moon rakes, the full moon rakes.

    1. Thanks, Tricia. It was a fun exercise both the oral drafting and then the recording. Reminds me of how poetry can sometimes generate itself through sound.

      2. For some reason; perhaps it’s the quiet, I am often visited by my muse in the shower. She loves water, I suppose.

  11. K.,
    You give fair warning in this dulcet chant, that the toll of the full moon’s spell of love can “rake” the heart with pain and “ache,” a bard-like but sage advice in tones of sepulchral wisdom. So well done, evoking ancient rhythms of sung poetry.

    1. Thank you. Moon bathing is great, and the full moon here makes its presence known. I wrote this one without paper or pencil which was a great way to just focus on sound and get into a rhythm. So glad it grabbed your attention.
