The stain smells sorta like a pine,

but every grape can’t be pressed to wine.

The elephant skin lake is wise

to follow the herd with squinted eyes, but

I’m taking the day’s placebo

in my neighborhood’s empty gazebo.

Fooled by the perfect symmetry

of my new, over-planned community.

    1. It’s deserted around here. I think I’m the only one not hiding indoors, or so it seems.

      1. Well now I don’t know if that’s such a bad thing. Nature and peace an quiet.

      2. True. A bit like a horror film about to happen, though.

      3. 😂 you might have a point, don’t go alone in the dark. 😯

      4. Agreed. Was thinking my large flash light could double as a weapon, but it’s probably better I stick to the buddy system.

      5. Yeah… but they run off and it doesn’t end well. Then you’re back to being alone. 😱

    1. Thank you. The deck was a nice surprise. A good trail around the lake for an easy run. It just feels so, “little boxes on a hillside.”

      1. Developers! You should see my neighborhood. A few models, spaced several houses apart. A real cloneville!

    1. Many thanks, John. You’re kind comments always lift my spirits. A “running” poem, this one. Stopped in this gazebo pictured to capture it on a memo. Can’t say I much wanted to run after that, but I managed to get back home.

      1. I love gazebos: those pics drew me to the poem plus the poet’s name 🙂

      2. Pretty sure the charm you’ve learned is no longer on the curriculum, John . Thank you. We share a gazebo bond, as I learned many of my favorite things in my grandmother’s green gazebo.
