Oh man, this song came to mind this week talking to a fellow blogger, and it was fun to research. Be sure to give this Friday’s flashback a listen. Happy Friday!

Welcome once again to Flashback Track Friday. Each week, either KK or Mister Bump will present a song to you, and out of that song, will prompt you with a question.

Gregg Allman was about to quit the music business altogether after trying and failing to kickstart a career in Los Angeles when his brother Duane called and asked him to consider becoming the lead vocalist of his new band in Jacksonville, Florida. In 1969, TheAllman Brother’s Band began making music.

Gregg’s trials with the music business provided the thematic inspiration for this week’s flashback, “Whipping Post,” which incidentally was written quickly on an ironing board cover one evening. Gregg later said: “It came so fast. I didn’t even have a chance to get the paper out. That’s the way the good songs come—they just hit you like a ton of bricks.”

  2. Wow. I’m so surprised I’ve never heard this song. Stunned. Anyway, that’s great piece of music, K.
