The Medusa sun
tempts with her warm gaze,
turns to stone
our summer memories
as wintery ghosts invade,
shivering below icy sheets,
startled and afraid.
Sharpened icicles
steal droplets of rain,
headless guardians
frozen only after their
essence has been drained,
forming fresh coils
in next year’s poisoned,
serpentine soil.
