The afternoon contains a hint
of that melancholy musty scent, so
take me to a circus tent
where I can easily pay my rent

performing for the wealthy gents.

Get that big-top-kinda thrill
for my freakish double-jointed skill.
My skirt, a swirling daffodil.
They ooh and ahh at all my trills.
Toss me their petal-shaped bills.

The evening imbues a rotting smell
of fresh-cut flowers down a well.
The strong man lost his prized barbell.
And though I’m sold, there’s more to sell.
And though I’m told, there’s more to tell.

    1. Thank you, John. I often feel under the big top in class, competing for a bit of attention and retention. Thanks for clapping at many of my shows. 😊

A great tantalising glimpse into the darker struggles behind each performer’s sunny facade 🙂

There’s so much in this – smells, sounds, story – and love the end rhymes.
