No answers come when I reflect,

that all are saved and all are wrecked

and faith requires genuflect.

No answers come when I reflect,

that ashes lie below all flames,

and we are nothing without names.

No answers come when I reflect,

that all are saved and all are wrecked.

An early attempt at a triolet (a poem of eight lines, typically of eight syllables each, rhyming abaaabab and so structured that the first line recurs as the fourth and seventh and the second as the eighth). Does spring bring out experimental forms in anyone else?

  1. I love your triolet! I head not into spring but I think your effort might inspire an experimental form in me!

    1. Oh wonderful. Thanks, worms, You’re heading down my favorite windy road to fall, right? No matter the beauty of the other seasons, I fall for autumn each and every year.

      1. Yes, into autumn. 🙂 Summer this year has been wet but not too hot. But it’s still the season when I feel least relaxed.

      2. I think of summer as a bonding period with my children. We live half in the imaginary world of our creations, and we surface only now again from our adventures. It’s a sacred season, but not excessively relaxed. Hope this fall you can easily unwind. 🦋💜

  2. Wonderful poem, K. I’ve only seen a couple of these. I quite like them. Spring brings out all kinds of new things, I think. Ready. 🍃🌿🌱

    1. Many thanks. It’s true. I’m very excited for April. I love the challenge of a poem a day, and taking on new forms. Cheers to new ideas and new boxes to put them in.

Excellent new poetry style! 🙂 The triple recurring lines really emphasises the message and the repetition at the end is a great way to round it off. Looking forward to more in future! 🌻 🐝

    1. Thank you, Tom. There’s something about threes; aspic that lingers, like an incantation. 😊 Glad you enjoyed it.

    1. Thank you, kindly. I find that form can lead to great creations when treated like an outfit in a closet of clothes.

    1. Oh, how splendid. The urge to burn something and use its ashes or write a triolet? 😂

The triolet seems to bring out the melancholy in the verse – you’ve written it beautifully. Spring does give us a shake doesn’t it? Peel off the layers and see what’s lurking underneath 🌻.
