Catherine EagerDiana Goddess of Nature, Animals and the Moon

Diana does the dishes.
Her arms are arrows
searching for the wild beasts
lurking in the bubbly forest of her sink.

She smiles when she finds a white
saucer the size of the moon.
The trickle of the faucet stream,
the natural flow of fertility.

Patiently, Diana frees food debris
to end their evening slavery.
Pots and pans of silver–
mirrors for self-admiring.

Her sponge’s quiver emptied;
her hunt is at an end. “Special delivery!”
she cries, splashes playfully her eyes,
but be careful not to spy

her hands emerging,
two private poppies for remembering.

NaPoWriMo#5~Today’s challenge is to write a poem about a mythical person or creature doing something unusual – or at least something that seems unusual in relation to that person/creature. For example, what does Hercules do when he loses a sock in the dryer? If a mermaid wants to pick up rock-climbing as a hobby, how does she do that? What happens when a mountain troll makes pancakes?

This was beautifully written, K! Intriguing twist on classic folklore – laughed aloud at some of your whimsical imagery here 😀

    1. Thank you, Tom. Glad this one gave you a good chuckle. A goddess has her chores to do, always, I suppose. 😃

Pretty unexpected subject you depicted here, but really liked how even the humdrum chores were given mystique and gravitas 🙂 ❤

      2. Such is a chunk of my actual life; the dragon of vacuuming, the tinkerer as recycler. It’s those unpaid jobs that make the best fantasies. 😂😂💜

    1. Ty kindly, Jeff Is it possible it’s only day 5? I will need some sort of stimulant to make all 30 new poems in a row. 😂😂
