Bird song through open window
well before dawn,
a dripping faucet song.

He rests on rotting bough
seat for morning’s leaky spout;
his throat a rusty valve.

Maybe his washer’s broken?
Maybe his cartridge gave out?
My legs stem in friction;
where’s his shut-off valve?

Would someone help
deactivate this cursed thing?
Wait, I see the problem,
his “O” vowel ring’s malfunctioning.

    Beautiful verses. They remind me of my childhood, when I sometimes spent the weekend at my grandparents’ house in the countryside and woke up to dozens of birds singing.
    The audio record is beautiful too.

    1. Thank you. Your grandparent’s place sounds magical. Crickets and river flow take me back to my grandparent’s home. I appreciate you kind comments.
