Today has been a factory day (more on this another post). But luckily, I penned a bit of brevity earlier this week and so today’s petite pen can keep its regular reservation. If you feel moved to write about the off-season, please join me in penning 30 word or less to this subtle painting by Italian artist Massimiliano Ligabue. I’m so grateful for all of my online writing friends.

Happy Tuesday!

Off-season by Massimiliano Ligabue

Check In or Out

Dress above the knee
is invitation
in the off-season,
so I ask, “How much?”
’cause I’m not interested in
unpruned fauna.

Empty reception;
check in or out;
nobody’ll notice.

  1. A fly burbles past
    somewhere above a baby cries
    but he feels her eyes
    behind him.

    Autumn is over,
    the front desk deserted,
    how easy to turn around
    and say hello?

    1. Enticing brevity, Tom. That moment of waiting captured in the initial images and then the idea that boredom can be beaten with just an introduction. I really enjoyed your brevity and the ease of how you bring us straight into the painting. Thank you for writing alongside me. Such a treat. ~K.

  4. I stand at the precipice
    waiting, life is continuous
    oblique, and precarious

    announcing
    my arrival

    I wait my turn
    at the way station
    bags packed, ready to mourn

    Didn’t see that one coming. Always a delight. 💜

    1. You’ve captured the transitory nature of a traveler and the seasons. Your words are always achingly beautiful. Thank you so much for writing alongside me here. 💜
