The Luminaries

Mistress, place another star 
upon the cosmic progress chart
Visualization of our noble goal –
to watch the light devour the dark.

Centuries spent slaughtering –
murder, rape and genocide.
Each light that shines, despite the din,
a badge of honor worn with pride.

And as the night sky’s uniform
fills up with stars (not stripes),
Salute the souls that 
preserved and 
won their shaky fight.
