A Bar at the Folies-Bergère
Édouard Manet 1882
Shadowed in.
My chance to be near her,
carnival mirror
coated in silver.
Oh, cruel curvature
the tangerine service,
small luxury
for which I cannot pay.
Gift in a gold-frame.
She is the gentle solution,
my stoic Suzon,
thin and nude,
an optical illusion.
