A poem written for Twisted Tuesdays…the art of Berthe Morisot
“Young Girl with a Parrot”
What pretty plumage!
At least that’s what the misters say.
With upright stance,
strong legs,
and disposition gay.
In time,
they’ll teach me to mime
as well as you.
Sit still on perch.
Memorize the appropriate gesture,
turn of phrase.
Intuit the proper way to entertain.
Monogamous by nature,
women are,
after all,
said to be bird-brained.
But with beautiful plumage
like ours, we can parrot
our way upward,
take center stage.
Each within our own
respective cage.
