I could never resist neon. God, her tube top glows, and I’ve got a few spare coins to send across the rainbow for good luck.
“Is there a song you wanna hear, honey?” I ask.
“Pick the first tune you remember,” she says with a dimpled grin.
It’s a test. Okay, don’t blow it. Bon Jovi? Lame. Duran, Duran. Maybe? I scan the screen desperate to find the perfect song. Got it. I’ve heard this one a trillion times. And after a few hip sways, “I Got You, Babe” begins.
“This gonna be our new song?” she asks, sucking down the last sips of her lime margarita before asking for a lift.
Outside, the neon hotel sign looks like one giant jukebox. I whisper close, “You know, an early moon is just a piece of change.”
In the softening sky, I see her clink.
