~After Black Country, New Road

Difference is the enemy.

A spaceship shot down;

the songbird lost at sea.

Foreignness can’t hide,

and I am weary from worrying.

Memory gone a day too long;

time tossed in the trash heap,

and I stand in solidarity

beside the cow,

but I’m no longer making milk.

My femininity

a few feet from the firing squad

waiting for rapid fire

or a hail mary

from a phantom savoir

at warp speed.

  1. This one reminds me of an online friend that has mentioned how very painful this time can be. The video is out there somewhere!

    1. I thought the video was fabulous, and somehow I equated it with the alienation of menopause. Go figure. Thanks for checking out my post, John.

      3. Thanks, K. I have a bad habit of saying stupid things and realising it later. 🫣

  2. The essence of loss is captured here and what’s being lost. I feel you on the worry thing… not a day goes by

    1. Thanks, Simon. It’s a heavy weight around her lately. Foggy, this future.

      1. I can only hope it gets brighter… at least lighter.
