This poem was written for the Late Night Poet’s Break on Through Radio Show inspired by the artwork of Jason Limon. So many great painting to pick from in his gallery. It’s adult-themed so enjoy at your own discretion.

Happy Saturday!

Myocardial Mend

Knitted my own arteries.
Sewed a leaky atrium,
above the drafty chamber
my younger self died in.

Now it’s all needles and thread, walking dead.
In the poorly lit night my skin likes to pretend to be alive.

But any sense of wholeness, apathy or pride
has long-since clotted;
tenderness must be transfused.

The forecast is hollow.
The coffin in my chest
contains only love that's expired.

Oh, the fragility of feeling nothing!
The lack of metronome, the leaky valve grows tired,
but I’ve no reason to confess my charms won't last.

After all, I’m heartless.

    1. Thank you. I think I have to go there sometimes to release the steam of the battery of jokes I get about my name, but this one also held depth for me, more so than I expected. Thanks for these comments, dear friend.
