To be so certain.

To freefall in an instant
towards a target,
slam a cold surface,
but never lose sight of desire.

To seize a startled prey
by the mouth
and take to the sky.

Everything pinned after,
realized.

To be so certain
once before I die.

    1. Thank you. I was so inspired by the birds at the bay this year. They really go for it. I do hope I can act with such certainty, should my fish come in. 😉

      1. Bah, certainty is overrated. It’s more important to go for it even when you’re uncertain because the reward of a single succulent sardine is worth plenty of dives resurfacing with an empty beak.

I love to watch the Hawks, they are relentless. I do believe they love to just fly, their prey is superfluous.

  4. Thanks, Jim. I see Hawks here in VA, but hadn’t noticed them diving. The sea birds, well, they amaze me. They pinpoint what they want, and they get it. I would like to be more like that.

Nature never ceases to amaze… and teach. I really like your approach to the lesson in this quadrille. Not always certainty, but always hope….I’m sure those seabirds miss once in awhile.
