I originally wrote this in six min. for the 6 min. challenge, but came back to it for a little editing. So, more like a thirty min. poem.
Happy Friday!
City camping––
hang a hammock between skyscrapers
and gaze out at the gray topless trees
dancing provocatively
for free in the urban jungle.
Watch for clogged streams,
cars like pebbles
stuck in the slow-moving current,
waiting for a flow to break free.
Enjoy the orderliness of noon
followed by flashes of neon
as day quits,
but is quickly outsourced
by a more flexible night moon.
What a view!
Lay back as the city’s constellations
connect beneath you.
Witness the heat,
red light to green,
fast-turning cars,
burst like logs on a campfire
before settling into a peaceful dream.
A shooting star moment,
the dying ember of desire.
Close your eyes,
but only after the city retires.
