The sky is closet gray,

except for one irregular hole

the yellow-tinged sun

chewed through on Monday.

It’s brave to fight

melancholy,

but its eggs were long-ago laid.

Right or wrong,

sorrow snuck through the screen,

but neglect helped it stay.

Dark and lifeless,

the only hope:

repel or kill

the starving larva gorging

on life’s colorful wardrobe.

Very vivid personification of spreading depression, K – paints a powerful scene 🙂

  2. I appreciate this comment, Tom. I’m sure there’s lavender oil and mothballs to ward off any real infestation. I just have to remember where I put them. 🤣

What an excellent song – and your poem is so skillful as always. “sorrow snuck through the screen” – what a great line.
