No fingerprints,
No eye-witnesses.
What’s left to decipher,
a record of dental imprints.

After-hours, careful forensics,
the x-ray of a serial killer’s bite,
white light beneath it.

Not so different from the white sheets
covering body parts left and right.

Common cavities,
Missing fillings.
Indents are the way
we make sense of carnage.

Use the pattern
to reconstruct the jaw,
the face.
Lead enough
to turn predator to prey.

  1. This feels like it could become a movie directed by David Fincher or Christopher Nolan. Incisive investigative work.

    1. Thank you. I was watching a bit of American Horror Story and musing on this photo from the 100 word story site, so that could have spawned it.

  4. Very dark poem, and I like the song you chose too. Was not familiar with Nation of Language, but they have a compelling sound.
