After Lola Young

What’s worse?

The casual way we word fucked

or the fact that when you called me up,

I considered it good luck?

Drought makes thirst.

To get nourishment,

I don’t mind putting my face in the dirt.

I’m ready to feel flame,

a fallen leaf yearning to be burnt.

Hidden colors go unseen

until the vein’s no longer green,

and of course we told each other

no one will get hurt,

but that was before the lightning,

the frosty windowpanes,

and continuous gusts

made us both useless.

  8. I love the rawness of emotion in this esp the line about putting one’s face in the dirt: abasement is such a ‘fraught’ emotion —
