I hope it’s okay if I release an emotional rant this Friday. It’s not my usual way, but I think it has a place in the current climate. I’d love to hear your thoughts on current events.

Peace & Love,

K.

Light-weight,

condescension,

one too many

fail-to-mentions.

Silence,

ignorance,

secret talks in

‘open-air prison.’

Right hook,

majority,

thin-strip apprehension.

A staring match

continues because nobody

can make a simple decision.

Fat knot in an

old-fashioned pulley system.

A selfish refugee,

a persecuted bully

share a bomb,

a holy land,

Jerusalem.

It’s nobody’s fault.

Hot potato hostages,

stay hot.

A necessary requirement

this bloody solvent.

I’m letting go

of what no one controls,

before pass-the-buck,

kids-out-of-luck,

bombs and ammunition

makes me deny

my heart’s involvement.

  2. This made me think and the awful thing is we watch it nightly on TV as before we watched Russia invade Ukraine. 😪

    1. Yes. I got wrapped up in the news about Israel, but there are so many parallels there as well. Thanks, Carolyn.

  3. if there was ever a time for ranting, K, this is it; I’m horrified and revulsed; the issue seems simple: you don’t take it out on civilians on either side — but whenever has this stopped combatants ?

    1. It’s horrible when humans are treated like pawns. I don’t want to look away, but I feel powerless to help. I guess I’m one of those pawns, too.

  4. K, I had goosebumps reading your poem. Such truth spoken holds power. We can let it go. So true. Thank you for such a powerful write. 💜

    1. Thank you, Colleen. It’s hard for me to keep the problems of the world separate from my own worries, a small black stone in a bucket in comparison. Writing about it helps, though.

  6. The regular people just trying to live their lives are usually the ones who suffer most.

    1. Yes. I think sometimes how we keep going on with all that suffering happening around us, or even when its far away.
