The quilted heirloom sky
tucks in day in for a restful night,
despite the snore
of country power lines.
Despite the gossip left unsaid
from the chatty katydids,
the day needs rest.
Its appetite sate
by a half-eaten weathervane
left on the horizon's plate.
Feet lift from fuzzy forest line.
Eyelids droop from the cool yellow shadow
of a familiar bedtime tune,
and the calm glow of twilight
that comes from being
at home in bed
spreads.
