Night swirls in morning’s cream,
extremes separated by
the windshield’s fine mesh strainer.
I wipe the sandy corners of my eyes
packed down by heavy force,
a crumbly crust of anger,
the blubbery, blueberry cheesecake
sliced by morning sunlight’s knife.
And for a moment I trust neutral,
forgetting my sorrow
as I’m blinded by the evergreens,
dazzling conifers of wit and beauty
thriving on both sides of the road.
Emerald distractions,
reminding me that all things
branch and grow.

This poem was inspired by a recently released poetry collection by an online friend. I’m really looking forward to reading “Blueberry Cheesecake & Emerald Distractions” this season. Be sure to check it out.
