Hibernating sentinel
of warmth and light
bearing but a candle’s flame
‘gainst wintery nights.

Frozen guardian,
ordained saintly knight,
holding faithful vigil
in spite of…

the layers we shed,

the faces we wear for love,

the life we try to bring to what’s already dead

fighting for a flame, but waiting for a dove.
