When spring can hold its breath no more,
the lucky leprechaun visits
to sprout fresh patches of clover where e’er he sits
along the forest floor.

And in his lap, a heaping pot of gold,
treasure spun all winter long,
which he flips with wink and warbling song
as pair of precious wings unfold.

Flickering gleams of royal durability
formed by sleight-of-hand,
twinkling sunlight taken to new heights,
signal the renewal of hope and beauty.

The bunny’s budding ears alert,
are first to hear their rustling flight,
and afterwards, with whispered verse,
foretell transformation
under a golden knot of moonlight.
