The moon paves a wide lane
on the sea's cobbled highway,
and though the steps be strange,
the straight lane stretches invitingly.
Our covered wagons strut,
vertiginous,
across the bumpy waves.
Blindly we travel forth
in search of where heaven's faithful torch
may lead us––
manifest destiny.
Before a horde of clouds
swarms the horizon
blocking the sacred passageway.
