This is not a tale of glitter and gold;
this is a story for the most part untold
of Flipsy and Flopsy,
the Easter Bunny's younger brothers
and their deeds most heroic.
Before the winter lake hollows,
Flipsy and Flopsy set to work
crafting from their mind's concoctions
all variety of spring decorations
to paint upon the gold hen's eggs.
Daffodils and Crocus,
Hellebores and Star Magnolias.
Hastily, as Easter fast approaches
and they fear their big brother's reproaches
should they not make their quotas.
For the year grows swollen,
so with measured skill and intuition,
the brothers paint by the great Egg-white's light
and spread their magic on shells so thin
that one harsh wind could crack them all to pieces.
Onward, Flipsy and Flopsy co-create
so that the first rays of spring
might incubate their masterpieces.
The blossoms break apart and hatch
the year's first garden patch.

Today’s Prompt: Write a surreal prose poem. For inspiration, check out Franz Kafka’s collection of short parables (my favorite is “The Sirens”).
