It takes two to tango...
but one person leads
and another follows.
I prefer a more flexible embrazo;
let the rise and fall be optional.
A dance suitable for both
bands and brothels.
Hands like silk stockings,
limbs interlocking,
finding your own balance.
Bring yourself to the dance––
toe tap.
head snap,
shyly look over the shoulder.
Be your own romance.
Sway yes and no,
practice alone,
without all the clinging,
to help yourself discover
the art of prolonging
love, loss, and longing.

Today’s Prompt: Write a poem rooted in “weird wisdom,” by which we mean something objectively odd that someone told you once, and that has stuck with you ever since. Need an example? Check out Naomi Shihab Nye’s poem “Making a Fist.”
