She came on a silver tray,
a fancy hors d’oeuvre,
a classy canapé.

Hair glazed fig topped with mascarpone
lips, smoked salmon.

Before cutting her into little pieces,
put her on display––
sharing, a formality.

365 degrees
washed down with the season's
first Chablis.

Before this summer flames,
enjoy the blooms;
see how easily time and beauty
can be consumed.

    1. Thank you, John. 💜I really liked this German postcard from 1908, so I tried to work on this one today even with company over.

    1. Thanks, John. I think the day deadline may have kept this one from getting as crispy as I would have preferred.

  3. First class writing, K. Just wondering if you based the poem on the excellent St. Vincent video and song or picked the video afterwards? Just starting to get familiar with St. Vincent and am liking what I’m hearing.

    1. Thanks, Lisa. No, I searched for a video after penning this to the postcard. I usually look at my recently saved lost and see if any of the songs were seating to play a support role. I thought this close enough. Thanks for asking. Occasionally, a song is the spark. I label these poems ekphrasis because the comet idea came from the music. Happy eclipse day!
