The gasp through open window,
the ah-ha moment,
it happens when I least expect it,
independent,
and after watering and waiting
unsure of what I’ve planted
in myself,
something precious
breaks the surface.

The mantras spoken,
the rituals;
I admit, I was spiritually uncertain.

I thought perhaps
hope was a ghost.

But then, without fanfare
or other form of grand announcement,
I see what I need most:

first growth.

    1. I can see that with my students and in my own writing. Growth can be tricky. Each day is just one more opportunity to make mistakes and make progress. Thanks for this, Nicole.
