A rare sort of bird,
the most fearless First Lady.

She was no overnight hero,
but worked ceaselessly towards her goals,
to do the things she did not think she could do
like strive for freedoms universal,
cart the president through four terms,
consent to the roles of wife and mother.

No one could make her feel inferior.

She taught us to strive for our individuality,
that it is more intelligent to hope
than live in disbelief.

Tomorrow is now.

Promote us all.

Diplomacy.

With a belief in the beauty of our dreams,
close to home and on foreign shores,
she was what the nation longed for...

Eleanor.

    1. Thank you kindly, Priti. I enjoyed the history lesson researching a woman I’ve always admired a bit more closely.

  4. a great tribute: I like the line ‘cart the president through four terms’; he certainly served a long time, just a little before my time —
