I use my bare hands to sow, a native garden in my soul.
Cultivate a Serviceberry, sanctuary for those who roam.
Milkweed and Blue Wild Indigo, oh, the pollinators I have known.

But if we stay inside ourselves, we miss the richness of our globe.
The ripe kiss of the Hibiscus, the rapid growth of Bamboo grove.
Deep fulfillment comes from sharing fruits and sampling the unknown.

Prompt: Write a sijo. This is a traditional Korean verse form. A sijo has three lines of 14-16 syllables. The first line introduces the poem’s theme, the second discusses it, and the third line, which is divided into two sentences or clauses, ends the poem – usually with some kind of twist or surprise. I have written my in six lines.

    1. Thank you, Beth. It wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be to write a sijo, but I am glad that I was able to finish it in a day. What a beautiful day it was, too.

    1. Thank you, Tiff. I had the idea touring a garden, but was finding it hard to make the syllables and lines work. I’m glad I stuck with it. Cheers to spring, dear friend.
