Water seals the cracks
in our driveway pavement.

The neighborhood sure has slipped.

Nature gets jittery when wet,
this storm its latest stimulant.

Rain forms scabs on the planks of our deck,
butterfly wings and petals too wet to spread,
and I am left to guess
what that sort of saturation feels like–

to, in an instant, have all thirsts quenched.

Windshield wiper rips another droplet,
which falls and breaks its hip.

Ecstasy and misery,
that's what the rain drips.

  1. Very cool to read! If you are back east then you are indeed getting too much rain…

    1. It has been sunny, but the weekend storm blew in. The rain is such a good sleeping aide, but it means cancelled ball games, park dates and the long walks I like to enjoy on the weekends. I get extra cuddles on rainy days, though, so I can’t complain.

      1. That sounds wonderful! Rain is rare here but the windstorm outside right now makes sounds as it blasts past my house!

      2. We have those windy ones as well. A good reason to stay in. 😄

      3. There were far fewer people on the trails today, I guess they can’t handle a bit of wind… It’s howling out there as I write this!

    1. Thank you, John. The rain didn’t get us down too bad this weekend. We just sort of soaked it in.

    1. Quite a bit, Anita. It makes everything so green here, but it does seem to be falling on the weekend quite regularly.
