We both look to god's face,
but say different names:
two facets of the same crystal vase.

Empty without our faith.

Instead of debate,
we take a static view
and religious illiteracy reigns.

Chances are,
there's no dance card
in the afterlife,
no borders to maintain.

Will we fight for holy land
in the place between domains?

Or carry our religious recidivism with us
into the reaches of outer space?

When my sun sets,
simply clasp hands with me,
and I will feel safe
from the closeness of our palms
despite the distance in our faiths.

  1. There’s always common ground to be had, if we see it.

    1. Indeed. Or the idea that we can be open to a plurality of truths. I know I am. Thanks for reading and commenting, Melissa.

  2. wonderful: a world without borders, one all embracing faith, unity, togetherness; I love the songs of Vampire Weekend: one of my favorites still is ;Unbelievers’, sort of on the same theme —

    1. Thanks, John. I am very much into the plurality of religion as a way forward. I will have to give “Unbelievers” a listen. I really like VW’s new album, although I’d heard of a few of their songs prior to it. Thanks again for connecting with my words and commenting here.

      1. I’m going to start listening to the songs you feature; the last one the Margaret Glasby song, was a beauty; I’m about to give it another listen now —

  3. I look around me and cruelty is all that I see and hear. Deceit tries to tidy things up. There is unity in hate, Katie, so a unified religion will follow. They just haven’t made it official yet. I doubt that this suicide cult will ever take off the ground.

    1. I’m sorry you find yourself surrounded by cruelty and hate. From my view, I see hope. I see possibility. I see the good in each religion and every individual. It’s there. You just need to play the glad game. 😉
