It’s nice having a bear
about the house,
shyly eating marmalade.
And as long as I honor
his critical space,
he’s a truly excellent flatmate.

It’s fun having a bear
nearby,
into the rafters he aptly climbs,
standing on a beam upright
to smell the arrival of each night
and change a lightbulb nearby.

It’s easy having a bear
as a bud,
even when he messes up.
He blindly makes his bed
and ends up with covers shred,

and while he keeps the carpets dirty
with his seasonal shed,
I find a bear
to be a joyful roomie,
and a trustworthy friend.

  4. I like the colloquial style of this, both words and imagery; it’s an easy read, at ease with itself —

    1. You could bear it, then? Quite during hibernation season, I suppose. 😄
