Look into the limbal rings of leaves,
green summer eyes.
This was once paradise.
Streams that did not run rank,
reeds of fields ideal for fishing,
all found outside
the sphere of sun and moon
where rivers of red wine
and fiddler’s green
led women to dance
and their ponds of purified honey
made men swoon.
For in the garden,
behind the walled enclosure,
fruits of every kind
grew firm year round.
But as two small apple hands
clasp mine,
cold as Blue Ridge Mountains peaks,
bathed in a spiritual breeze,
we three experience
the kingdom of glory
in this lifetime.
