The match couldn’t be more perfect:

sky, a coral reef

filled with clouds of tropical fish.

Sea, a glass slipper

destined to fit.

And the ones I call home,

rest beside me in the prow of a fishing boat,

rocking towards the outstretched arms

of mother inlet.

Mountains fossilize in the setting sun.

Tree to rock. Grumbling from the transformation.

Still surface, a silver lantern, offering protection

from the impeding tempest.

We hold tightly to each other,

watch the lightning bolt kiss

alive for the present—

to relish the last rays of lemon

squeezed from the day’s ripened citrus.

    1. Thank you, Julie. I had such a wonderful experience out on the waters of the Gulf of Thailand. I think the best part of me is perhaps more at home near the water.
