With their wicked forward and backward pointing toes, owls swoop in and swallow their prey. It’s done almost poetically. Owls are diplomats, see, and they use their words and actions prudently to accomplish only the most important tasks.

I’m so pleased to share that one of my fledgling haiku inspired by the snowy owl will be published this evening on Pure Haiku. I’d be honored if you visited the site to give my my words pause. Here are the other short verses left nesting in their burrows.

Kind regards,

Katie

With gentle lift, she
spread velvety wings en l’air
balletically.

Like fresh-cut apple
orbiting the orchard tree;
a head worth hiding.

Locked on a target,
course trajectory arranged—
White Sands Missile Range.

Evict the first wife.
Swallow the youngest fledgling.
Ruthless raptors scream.

    1. Thank you, Tiff. Owls have the otherworldly, spirit-vibe thing down. I’m a fan, for sure.
