The stereo plays something familiar
but in a new chord.

Like you’ve been hit by an arrow,
you fall on the melody's sword.

A break-up anthem with yourself.

A song that shadows the half moon
and makes it whole.

You limp a while more,
not realizing you're wounded.

Leave trail of roses on
the kitchen floor,

but the pool is ready.

You're only inches from
the diving board.

GloPoWriMo #5 After a busy day hosting my son’s birthday party and starting to reorganize post-earthquake, I still managed to squeeze in a little poetry writing and a nice bath. Cheers!

Today’s (optional) prompt is inspired by musical notation, and particularly those little italicized –and often Italian – instructions you’ll find over the staves in sheet music, like con allegro or andante. First, pick a notation from the first column below. Then, pick a musical genre from the second column. Finally, pick at least one word from the third column. Now write a poem that takes inspiration from your musical genre and notation, and uses the word or words you picked from the third column.

A wonderful transformative poem. Sometimes it’s time to say goodbye to who we were and start anew.

    1. I agree, Bob. We should be able to shed those layers like insects when the skin no longer suits us. Thanks. 🙏

    1. Thank you. Birthdays build around here into weekends. He’s growing up too fast. Another lap around the sun complete. 🏁🏎️

  4. I feel weird repeatedly telling you this, but I don’t always have like the most perfect comment, I love your poetry style choices. Your wordsmithing always impresses me.
