Youth,
elasticity of emotions,
easy bounce of bodies,
wallow in yourself,
a green soaking spring,
frolic in the fresh field
of each other’s faces.
Wash your thick bloom of hair
in life’s bubbly stream.
Enjoy your prime,
this free and fragile dream
of vitality’s hardy vine.
Suck up the springtide,
best season of your lifetime.
Cheers to youth,
a potent, immature drink;
bottoms up,
it’s later than you think.
For NaPoWriMo Day 7, I chose to write about one of the things “We Can’t Pay For,” a contest hosted by FrenchGirl on AllPoetry. My mind went straight to the freedom of youth, so I penned a free-verse poem under 20 lines for this contest.
The NaPoWriMo.net prompt for today is to write a poem in a special form. I chose the “Fib” which is a six-line form with the syllable count following the Fibonacci sequence of 1/1/2/3/5/8. You can link multiple Fibs together into a multi-stanza poem, or even start going backwards after your first six lines, with syllable counts of 8/5/3/2/1/1. Here is my best go at transforming this poem into a Fib. Which do you prefer? Join us in verse!
Juvenescence
Youth,
bounce,
easy
emotions,
elasticity.
Bodies feel firm as evergreen.
Youth,
lean,
frolic
in fresh fields
of other’s faces,
clean bubbles burst by soaking spring.
Youth,
bloom,
fragile
petals prime,
free vitality.
The hardy vine creeps by unseen.
Youth,
dream,
potent,
immature
cheeky, cheery drink.
Bottoms up! Faster than you think.
