John Anster Fitzgerald (1823-1906)
My banners hung. Fruit crown in hair. The brassy fanfare of leaves introduces honored guests to my most regal seasonal affair. Salmon run sunsets and a calligraphy of flower stems invites us to reflect, as sunlight dims to dining tables, candlelit. Come chinwaggers, sit. Enjoy the harvest of lushness. The rustling tide of leaves make way for the harmonic sounds of the first freeze. Strut in with black tie and fitted velvet dress to join the yearly rut.
Reap tender gladness;
to fall from such a great height,
a backend banquet.
