Blushing pink, a sunset in each cheek,
the sight of which makes the wonky woods go weak.
The moon swoons; the stars give a flirtatious wink.
The ruby in the sky may finally be within reach,
but when I extend myself,
the night’s black snake coils its scales to suffocate
the beams; the lovely light abates,
and I am left to watch in horror
as night’s bright egg
incubates.
