The ocean follows a morning routine.

Water flosses the jetty teeth
dislodging seaweed and debris,
as the long yawn of breakers
trails after a snore.

The sea stretching its fingers
towards a new high-tide mark.
The bubbly breakers

scrub patiently the muscular shore,
sore from the footfall
and crumbling castles of the day before.

The tide will rub the knots out,
as the wind brushes tangles from
curly green tresses offshore.

No longer closed, the sun blinks,
spilling a tall glass of something orange
onto the horizon, breaking its repose.

Aquamarine, ready for anything,
the ocean finishes
its morning routine.
